Here is the article based on the outline: Globalization Essay IELTS: Pros and Cons of Globalization Globalization is a term that describes how the world has become more connected and interdependent through trade, technology, culture and politics. It is a common topic for IELTS writing task 2, as it affects many aspects of our lives, such as economy, environment, culture and society. In this essay, I will discuss the positive and negative effects of globalization on the world and give my opinion on how to deal with them. One of the main benefits of globalization is that it has boosted the economic growth and development of many countries around the world. By allowing companies to operate across national borders, globalization has increased trade, investment, competition and innovation. For example, in the last several decades, many Asian countries such as China and Vietnam have allowed for foreign investment, thereby stimulating their economic growth. Individuals can enjoy a variety of products from around the world and the companies themselves contribute in the form of taxes and employment opportunities. Another benefit of globalization is that it has enriched the cultural diversity and exchange of ideas among people from different backgrounds and regions. Individuals from all around the world can experience the latest Hollywood movies and listen to their favorite artists on applications like Spotify. This undoubtedly influences and encourages other entertainers to work hard and produce quality content. Moreover, globalization has also facilitated the spread of knowledge, education, language and values that can enhance mutual understanding and cooperation among nations. However, globalization also has some serious drawbacks that cannot be ignored. One of them is that it has caused significant environmental damage and degradation due to the increased consumption of natural resources and emission of greenhouse gases. For instance, the Amazon rainforest, which is home to a large biodiversity of plants and animals, is being deforested at an alarming rate to make way for agricultural and industrial activities. Similarly, the coral reefs, which are vital for marine ecosystems and tourism, are being bleached and destroyed by global warming and pollution. Another drawback of globalization is that it has created social problems such as inequality, exploitation and homogeneity. Many multinational companies are accused of exploiting workers in developing countries by paying low wages, imposing long hours and violating human rights. These workers often have no choice but to accept these conditions due to poverty and lack of alternatives. Furthermore, globalization can also foster a harmful homogeneity that erodes the uniqueness and identity of local cultures. The film industry is a prime example of this. The standard American structure for films and television shows is now copied globally and funded by powerful entertainment studios such as Netflix. These companies are almost exclusively interested in specific genres, most commonly crime and action. Over time, entertainment may become less unique and no longer showcase true diversity. In conclusion, globalization has both positive and negative effects on the world. It has brought economic benefits such as trade, investment, growth and development; as well as cultural benefits such as diversity, exchange and innovation. However, it has also caused environmental drawbacks such as pollution, climate change and resource depletion; as well as social drawbacks such as inequality, exploitation and homogeneity. It is therefore important for each nation to carefully manage and balance the benefits and drawbacks of globalization.
